Study the sacred rituals, whirling, folk dances, music, and prayers of this ancient land and learn more about the great mystic masters of this region. These workshops are for both men and women.

7th ANNUAL VANCOUVER ISLAND BELLYDANCE SHOWCASE
Allison Balabuch, Bobbie Forbes Barry and Cali Sanderson are pleased to announce the 7th annual Vancouver Island Bellydance Showcase. Last year was a sell-out so mark your calendars and act soon. This will be a pre-sale event only as we will need to submit catering numbers beforehand.
This year it’s a 3-set show with a buffet dinner and a cash bar, held in Victoria, BC, at the Ambrosia Catering Centre. As always, belly dance of all levels, from beginners to seasoned professionals, from all over the island, will be showcased.
CALL FOR PERFORMERS: A new format this year, in the style of Cabaret Dinner Theatre. Performers will be able to request 5, 7 or 10-minute performance slots. Completed submissions will be chosen by lottery for solo and/or group pieces. For 10-minute slots, performers are asked to include a short video with their submission.
Complete submissions are due by midnight, Friday, September 21, 2018. The lottery will be drawn and announced by the following Friday, September 28, 2018.

An inspiring evening of dance to celebrate the upcoming Summer Solstice. The Hafla is a 10+ year tradition at the Abbey Studio. Expect to see styles including fusion bellydance, Romani ‘Gypsy’ dance, women’s traditional dances from the east, modern, ariel silks, burlesque, flow/spinning arts. All ages welcome. Dancing and jamming for all follows the show. Feel free to bring finger foods, deserts and beverages to share. Doors at 7:30, performances starting at 8PM. Suggested donation $10.

Learn about intricate Arab rhythms, join in informal workshops, see outstanding performances by experienced Middle Eastern dance artists and musicians who will share their expertise while challenging popular stereotypes and assumptions. It’s Cowichan Valley Shimmy Mob’s annual bellydance fundraiser, with dancing and drumming and fundraising and music and laughter and an all around good time. Tickets will be $25 and will include a burger, fries and beer. Good food, good time and a great cause! All proceeds will go to Cowichan Women Against Violence Society.
